Darren Hayes was born in 1972 in Australia. He was performing at an early age for his family before partnering with Daniel Jones to from the group Savage Garden. Hayes go this job by answering an ad in the newspaper for a singing position.
In 1996 the duo released their first single that became the best selling song in Australia that year. They also had the best selling album in 1997. In 1998 their album hit the radio in the United States and sold a total of seven million copes. In 1999 during a divorce Hayes wrote ” I knew I loved you” which sold an additional six million copies. The group was even asked to sing at the closing ceremony of the summer Olympics.
Even though the duo was successful Hayes announced the partnership was breaking up in 2001. While neither member officially commented the break up Hayes had been quoted to say the group will not get back together by any chance. In 2002 Hayes released his first solo album. In Australia and the United Kingdom the album reached the top five of the music charts. In the United States the album was not as successful.
Hayes then took another approach to his music. The music had more of a dance and electronic based feel. While it was a change the album did reach number one on the dance charts.
Currently Darren Hayes is getting ready to release a new album and it is getting strong review. Hayes has been successful at keeping most of his personal life personal. He is now happily married (well domestic partnerships) and is planning to tour to promote his new record. This record is going to be released in Australia and the United Kingdom. A release date for the United States has not been posted yet.
